Celeste Piper led the CV Girls’ varsity tennis team to a third place finish in the Bay Valley Athletic League championships held on Oct 30, 31 at Freedom High school in Antioch.
The Eagles ended their 2006 season in second place with a 13-3 record finishing behind 15-0 Carondelet by two and a half games
Singles players Stacy Carlson, Megan Roberson, Celeste Piper and Katie Chirco advanced to the second round of the singles competition. Chirco and Piper were able to take it a step further by advancing to the quarterfinals after Carlson lost to Carondelet 10-0 and Roberson lost to Deer Valley 10-3.
Chirco lost the first set 4-6. She then won the next set 6- 2, and lost the third 5-7 in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Piper made it to the semifinals and lost the match, but did win third place defeating Krystie Maniulit of Antioch 6-4, 7-5.
In Doubles, Allison Tippery and Jessilynn Chaudoir advanced to the second round along with Christine Walsh and Aline Nava, while Moriah Doman and Aysa Tabdili-Azar also advanced after their first round bye.
Tippery and Chaudoir lost 10-5 to Ygnacio valley, Walsh and Nava lost 10-2 to Concord while Doman and Tabdili-Azar lost 10-6 to Heritage.
The future is bright for the Eagles and new stars will need to rise since Carlson, Chirco and Roberson are graduating in June. Piper, being a freshman, still has 3 more seasons to play for the Eagles, and can only get better.
Coach Suzanne Beck had a great first year at Clayton Valley as her team went 13-3.
