For many years every fall, Northwestern girls’ middle school soccer has been battling for a victory over Har-bur girls’ middle school soccer. On September 23, 2008, on a brisk Tuesday afternoon, the Northwestern girls faced Har-bur. With a strong starting line-up, Northwestern managed to only let in one goal in the first half. The score was one to nothing, Har-bur. Even though we were down one goal, Coach Stapleton told us to keep the fire in our eyes for intimidation and our heads held high. Casey W. (the team’s best goalie) had many great plays and kept the team alive. In the second half, Emily L. popped the soccer ball over the finger tips of their goalie, and we had a tied game. Mid second half, Har-bur laid a goal in the left hand corner of our net. Northwestern girls huddled with about five minutes to go to give each other hope in ourselves. At about the three minute mark, Maura R. dodged just about all the Har-bur players and scored by coming up all the way from the defending line and swishes the ball into the right hand corner. Northwestern tied Har-bur for the second time in 19 years! Everyone left the field with confidence and satisfaction. What a game!
