Our Speakers Britney Young and Janelle Cofey attend University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff. Britney and Janelle are both college students who shared similar experiences on the road to college. Britney said even though she did not have a high SAT score her GPA was very good (3.9) enabling her to still get a scholarship. Janelle had several personal obstacles and overcame them by not letting her home life keep her from making something of herself. Both speakers gave several helpful tips but the one they stressed the most was to be involved, anything from being involved in the community to getting internships. They say being more involved will prepare us for what we want to do in the future. Another topic they stressed was building interest early and find out what we enjoy doing.
Britney has two jobs and has an internship which she says is very benificial to our success after we get out of school because if a person interns for a business and does a good job, they will probably have a job for that business or a good recommendation because the business is familiar with the quality of the intern's work.
Listening to what Britney and Janelle both had to say gave me alot of information that could help me in the future when I decide on what college and profession I choose. I learned alot and it made me think about how to be more responsible and how to manage my time now in preparation for college.
