If I were allowed to change one word in the constitution it would definitely be: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, marriage, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This miniscule change would eliminate the huge controversy currently surrounding same sex marriage. Millions of dollars, and years worth of effort, that could have been spent on something constructive. Everybody deserves the equal right to choose who they would like to spend the rest of their life with, and al of the benefits and responsibilities inherent in that choice. Bob Bergey

I think that this sentence should be in the constitution, because this solves the problem of many false tails, which are proliferating and hurting many people. Lets look at my former neighbors, who kept a closed eye on one of my friends who is an Egyptian, because they thought that since he is an Egyptian he can steal. Also one of the movies depicted Egyptians as sneaky selfish people, but this is not about Egyptian; it is about the fact that people have to suffer like this. This whole concept is wrong and injustice to those who it had been applied to. We are not the one’s to judge, but almost in all religion god is, then why do we act this way? I think the above sentence will make a big difference. Hyder Mujtaba

My sentence to the United States Constitution would be “Together we will become the greatest country in the world.” It would be this because it has an insurance factor to not come mess with the US. The downfall to having this would be that just because we said that everyone would try to come screw us up. This is not necessarily what needs to be added it is just what I would add. Marc Shideler

If I could add one sentence to the United States Constitution, it would definitely be “In every place of learning, we must ban the amount of ignorance and teach the future of other great places”. Children now do not know so much about even simple questions as to who may rule a certain country or have never even heard of a country. I took a survey from eight people and only two people had heard of Swaziland, while only one knew where it was truly located. That is what the American public has come to, America used to be number one in education but now it has become one of the lowest for a country besides the third world ones. Even a girl in my class seriously asked “what’s a Haitian?”, because in a Florida, public school she was never taught about those people. That is not what the American public should come to be about, so that is why I would add the statement in the first sentence to the constitution. Jocelyn Weiner

If I could add one sentence to the U.S Constitution, it would have to do with Amendment Eight, cruel and unusual punishment. It would regard the death penalty, saying the death penalty falls under cruel and unusual punishment and should be abolished. The worst possible punishment would be life in jail. They would suffer more with life in jail anyway, death is just a way out. This may seem wrong to some, but this proves that killing is not always the answer. Jessica Lowenstein

If I were to add to the constitution with something that could benefit America today, I would relate it to the national government. I would add the Amendment that America has the right to call upon another election if needed every two years of a President’s presidency. Every two years of a president’s term, America should have the right to vote for the president to finish the term for another two years or have to get re-elected against another candidate. The reason why I think this amendment should be added is because during the election process, candidates lie about their political views and plans for America in order to get elected. Once they are elected they have four years to do whatever they desire, because they are already in office. Our current President, George W. Bush has brought America into war and is continuing to make decisions that the majority of America disagrees with. America’s approval rating of Bush is at 30%. America disagrees with his decisions and what America is becoming from his presidency. An example of this is seven in 10 Americans, including 58 percent of Republicans disagree with his a deal he made recently giving a Dubai-owned company operational control over six major U.S. ports. America is in big trouble and all we can do now is wait until 2009 when a new President is put into office. It will then be their job to repair America so that it was the way it was before Bush was elected. America is having serious economy problems, suffering from global problems, and is now hated by the majority of the world. With my new Amendment, these harsh outcomes might have been able to be prevented. I don’t know if America will ever be the same again and recover from the Bush presidency. Hannah Berner
