P.E.
P.E. is short for physical education. During P.E. class, the students learn how to
play sports like pickle ball, football, ultimate frisbee, basketball, and
volleyball. To even the playing field
for students who are not athletic, the P.E. teachers give written assignments
to the students. The 5 paragraph essay
and chapter worksheets are some examples.
The
students run the mile during P.E. and receive grades on it. The teachers require the students to run the
mile because they feel that the students will become healthier. This will also train them for the State
Fitness Test in physical education. The
teachers grade the mile run to encourage the students to run as fast as they
can and get good grades.
Physical
education teaches students about health issues.
It is all about staying fit, healthy, and making the right
decisions. The teachers want the
students to grow fit and healthy. They
also want students to make the right decisions if they ever come across friends
or family who are smoking, drinking, or taking drugs.
P.E.
teachers give out participation points to those students who are doing the
activity and not to those who are talking or not paying attention to the
game. The students who do not
participate get points deducted from their grade. The students who participate get full
participation points.
In
December, students must participate in the State Fitness Test to show that they
are doing the right things to stay healthy and fit. The students will be asked to run the mile in
less than 9 minutes, be able to do push ups, and sit ups. Those who finish between 9 and 12 minutes
will pass the test and get a higher mark than those who do not.
