Character Counts

Character Counts is something to do with the six pillars that there are, and how everyone shows examples of it.  Last time we had a character counts assembly was about a little over a month ago.  The last trait we had was Trustworthiness.  The next assembly is dated on Dec.19, 2008 and the new pillar is Respect.

In class every week on Wednesdays, the wave writing that the whole school does is related to the topic, Character Counts.  All Wednesdays we will be doing something related to character counts and the pillar that is describing at the time.  We will be able to share what we have written at the end of wave.  We will get about 30 minutes to get done and share.

A question was, how do you get picked and why do you get picked?  The answer was that the teachers watch you and see how you do and if you show the example of the character counts or pillar you will be rewarded. That’s not it though, you have to show the example consistently, not just one time, and they have to be different types of things related toward the pillar.

Another question that was asked was, how do you pick who is going to be the person of the trait?  I have that the teacher will watch every student in class and see who is showing the trait the best.  Also students will nominate who they think it should be because most of the teachers aren’t always out on recess duty, so they might be an angel in class, but a bully outside of class.  Students will come up to the teacher at certain times, but very rarely and they will tell them suggestions about students.

Character Counts is a relationship between six different pillars.  Each different pillar that there is will be presented by a student in each different wave class.   Each wave teacher will be able to pick a student that is in their wave class, and assign them as the character that showed that pillar.  Every time that there is a new character picked the students name will be presented up in the classroom above the whiteboard.  This will not change though; if we have another pillar that name will also be awarded right next to the other one.
