The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics rivalry have been renewed in the 2010 NBA Finals.
This meeting in the NBA Finals is a must win situation for the Lakers, because they are out for revenge. In last meeting in the 2008 NBA Finals, the Lakers fell really short losing, Boston winning the series 4-2, the Lakers were embarrassed in the TD Gardens losing by 39 points in the sixth game. And now the Lakers have been working hard to go against the Boston Celtics once again to prove to them that they are the better team.
On June 3, 2010, the first game of the 2010 Finals was held in the Staples Centers with a sold out crowd. Before the first minute had ended there were already two technical fouls given out to Ron Artest and Paul Pierce when they were tangled up in each other’s arms. By the end of the first half, 28 fouls were given out and 27 free throws. But the Lakers lead 50-41 at halftime.
During the 48 minutes of intense basketball Lakers were able to use the Celtics weakness to their advantages. It was rebounds and turnovers that hurt the Celtics a lot.
As the basketball went back and forth the Celtics were missing shots that they would usually make. It was all because of the defensive plays that the Lakers worked on.
As the third quarter ended the Lakers were up by 20 points, because of the 3-pointer by Artest. But in the second half as the Celtics tried to fight back and try to even catch up, the Lakers were just blocking shot after shot.
This game was an important game for both teams, but in the end it was visually seen that the Lakers came more prepared to face the Celtics and win.
The defense that was played by the Lakers was beyond great and it showed in the end when they took the first game 102-89.
