The popular Ocean City boardwalk -
Advertising
Most students can’t believe that the school year flew by so fast, but chances are that students are anything but gloomy! Even though our economy is in a recession, most people are not taking notice and going on summer vacation as usual. Summer is the time to kick your shoes off and have a great time since the past school year has been so strenuous. The majority of Patterson Mill students vacation at nearby Ocean City, only a three hour drive. With an awesome boardwalk, fun beaches, and hot weather, Ocean City also has cheap prices that make it a favorite among Harford County families. Four out of the five students I talked to have stayed at Ocean City in the past. North and South Carolina are also popular among Marylanders who vacation at the Outer Banks and Myrtle Beach. Tourism destinations in the two southern states include amusement parks, golf, wineries, beaches, meetings and conventions and sports venues. Freshman Nia McDonald said, “My favorite thing about South Carolina is that there are waterparks everywhere.” Some other close vacation spots are the Matoaka Camp site in Maryland, New York City, Star Island, and even skiing in Vermont. I asked a variety of Patterson Mill students about their favorite ever vacation. Sophomore Jon Williams said, “I don’t really have a favorite, but I love every time I go boating in the summer.” However, Missy Cadd and Katy Schroeder, both juniors, agreed that the best vacation is a cruise. “I’ll never forget my cruise around the Carribean,” Missy added. Cruises and resorts are doubtless fun, but most locals don’t have money to take them too frequently. Whatever you do this summer, from a luxiourious cruise to a summer camp, I’m sure it’ll be fun!
