“It really depresses me,” says Amanda Page, a Patterson Mill High School student, when asked how the recent gay teen suicides have affected her.
People have been stung from the recent events that involved suicides and murders due to sexuality. It might be easy to say that this happened because President Obama wants to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the military. It seems that some people just look for excuses or reasons to express their hatred.
It is interesting how human beings will strongly dislike or look down on things and people they do not understand and beliefs they do not share with others. It seems as though it is much easier to persecute other people than to just accept them or at least acknowledge that they are no different than anyone else.
Considering events that have occurred over the last decade, this is generation of change. Yes, there are people that would disagree with that statement. However, many others would strongly agree. If the people of this great country can go from segregating African Americans to electing one as their president, than there is a strong possibility of ending abuse against homosexuals. The gay community should not have to be separated from everyone else. The people of this country could be more open and accepting if they tried.
