The Falcons went pink to raise breast cancer awareness for their game against West Plains on Sept. 29. “It pumps us up. We know what we are playing for,” said junior Jake Rogers. The team was finishing up a streak of five games in six days due to the numerous rainouts. The team went 2-2 before beating West Plains 8-0, which is their best offensive effort to date. During the defeat of the Zizzers, the team wore special pink jerseys with some fans doing the same to support the fight against cancer. The idea was started by the coaching staff and caught on to become a reality. Some players like junior Kurt Waterman have been personally affected by this illness. “I’ll play harder and think about how it impacted my family,” said Watermen. Another player who’s been affected is Alec Martinez whose aunt was diagnosed with cancer this year. “I have something extra to play for,” said Martinez who scored a goal and had two assists during the game. Since the Falcons were able to win so impressively in the pink game they held their ranking of 1st in the Southwest Regional Coaches Poll edging out Joplin.
