The True Bromance

As Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) and Zooey (Rashida Jones) begin the preparation for their wedding, it is brought to Peter’s attention that he has no one to fill the role of his best man. Not only does he not have a best man, he doesn’t have any close friends in general.
Peter thus turns to his brother Robbie (Andy Samberg) who shows him the ropes of meeting men. After awkward man-dates with potential friends, Klaven thus gives up and focuses on his real estate, specifically, selling the house of Lou Ferrigno, star of “The Incredible Hulk” TV series. It is at an open house where Peter comes into contact with Sydney Fife (Jason Segel). They exchange business cards and Klaven sets up another man-date after an awkward call to Fife.
Klaven and Fife hit it off after a night of fish tacos and getting drunk and continue to hang out. They truly begin to connect when Klaven goes to Fife’s house, and they realize they have an equal love for the band Rush. They jam together and hang out almost every day leading up to Peter’s wedding.
Paul Rudd and Jason Segel display what a “bromance” is supposed to be. They act, share moments and feud like they are a couple. There are moments too when men from Peter’s previous man-dates appear, one of which played by Thomas Lennon believes Peter is in a true relationship with Sydney and becomes upset and jealous of it.
The movie is funny in quirky ways. “I Love You, Man” doesn’t need the cliché “funny” lines that occur with basically every line. Apologies to Dane Cook, Will Ferrell and others who have taken these routes to make a funny movie, but they have made nothing but a movie full of “funny” lines that countless people will quote forever and ever, creating a monsoon of annoyance for those around who don’t need to hear the lines said in real-life situations.
Overall, it is a great movie to go and see with some friends by not having to worry about pathetic attempts to be funny that strain the brain, but enjoying a movie being funny in its own way.
