Hard work is nothing new for Junior Alex Steenrod, who is a shot-put thrower. After two years, he is one of the best throwers on team.
“My personal best is 42.5 feet, and I’m trying to get better everyday.” he said.
He started field events after many people told him to try it.
“Coach Burwell, and Jake Berkshire told me at football practice to try it and it just stuck,” Steenrod said.
He also is working on discus, another field event; he said that he is trying to become a better thrower and tune up his form.
“I’m starting to tighten things up, I’m a work in progress,” he said.
Steenrod is also a Right and Defensive tackle on the football team. This year it seems he will get ample playing time at both positions. “ I think I’m a starter at Right Tackle and I play a lot of D tackle.” Steenrod said.
Even though as much as he loves his athletic accomplishments, he really takes pride in his schoolwork.
“I have a 3.68 GPA, but I wish it was a 3.7 GPA, and I’m trying to bring it up to that.” he said.
One place in which he excels is in his Speech and Performance Class.
“I have a 97 in there it is really fun and enjoyable,” Steenrod said.
Steenrod also said that he always tries his best in every class he is in, and that his effort never changes.
His fellow classmates feel the same way, sophomore Max Huffman says that’s one reason why he’s Steenrod’s friend.
“He works hard, works well, and he is diligent.” Huffman said.
Huffman also said that projects don’t seem like work for Steenrod.
“He has fun with every project that gets,” he said.
Behind his work ethic and itch to get better, Steenrod also said that his teammates and coaches were just as important.
“I get help form Coach Burwell, Tom Vretas, and Coach Boli,” he said.
