Angels and Demons” challenges minds with its suspense, thrills, and historical relevance that would attract any movie fan.
Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is a symbologist making a reappearance from the prequel, “The Da Vinci Code.”
One day Langdon is surprised by a Vatican, Claudio Vincenzi (David Pasquesi), as he is swimming. Vincenzi asks for assistance in a unexplained disappearance of a new scientific invention called anti-matter, which was stolen from its containment room.
Anti-matter was the new scientific invention that gives all matter mass and helps explain human creation. The anti-matter could explode and destroy the Vatican City and part of Rome with just a flash of light if its battery dies. The battery will die at approximately midnight giving Langdon, Vincenzi, and scientist Vittoria Vetra (Ayelet Zurer) only six hours to uncover clues from the archives of the Vatican Catholic Church.
Meanwhile, the Pope has died and four cardinals are in the running to become the next one.
Unfortunately, all four were kidnapped at the same time the anti-matter vial was stolen.
Langdon is portrayed as an intelligent man knowing much about the history of Italy. He brings up a previous murder streak that happened when four random people were kidnapped. Each person was branded with one of the four pillars known to most Vaticans; earth, air, fire and water. They were killed and thrown into the street.
This crime was committed by a secret society called the Illuminati. Commander Richter (Stellan Skarsgard) then receives a video email from the kidnapper saying he will reenact the Illuminati’s transgression on each cardinal at every hour mark before midnight.
Langdon and his team race against time to save the cardinals from experiencing torturous deaths. However, each will be killed at a different location in Vatican City and there’s no easy way to know where they are. As Langdon eventually arrives at the first location, he is too late. He finds the first cardinal murdered and branded with the word “earth.” Langdon and Vetra continue their journey only to find the other cardinals branded with one of the pillars.
“Angels and Demons” is a sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat mystery that will have viewers eager to know what will happen next. The twists and unsuspected events make spectators want to keep watching it.
This Ron Howard film is brilliant and is worth every penny you spend to see it.
