Boys Tennis The boys tennis team finished the season on a high note. They received second place in the Federal League only losing one game to the Jackson Polar Bears. They couldn’t have done it without the talents and skills of senior Chase Pucci and sophomore Nick Fockler. Pucci and Fockler received the first team All-Federal League honor and were All-League selections. Both athletes went to Columbus for the 2009 state qualifier competition. The competition took place May 29. -Kara Riccardi Varsity Baseball The boys baseball team played the Lake Blue Streaks at home May 7 and lost 6-9. May 9 they traveled to Marlington for a doubleheader. They won the first game 22-16. Senior A.J. Ross hit two homeruns and had four RBI’s. Junior Brett Tulodzieski pitched the game. Hoover also won the second half of the doubleheader, 18-11. The Vikings rallied from an early 6-0 deficit. Senior Nick Sommers was the winning pitcher. May 11 the team hosted Glenoak and lost 3-6. They then traveled over to Glenoak the next day and lost 3-9. The Vikings hosted Garfield in the first round of the state tournament and blew them out 17-0 May 14. May 15 Hoover played Glenoak at home for the third time in four days but lost 7-10. The Vikings hosted the McKinley Bulldogs May 19 beating the pups 10-9. Ross hit the winning single for the Vikings. -Cory Veldhuizen Track and Field The boys and girls track teams competed in the district track meet at North Canton Memorial Stadium from May 20-22. The boys took fourth place with a score of 67.5. The girls team took third place with a score of 83.5. Wadsworth, Glenoak and Wooster, among others, proved to be fierce competition for the Viking runners. -Heather Ramsey Girls Softball The girls softball team beat the Spartans at Boardman May 7. The final score was 1-0. The team defeated Akron Garfield 10-0 in the OHSAA tournament. The Lady Vikes then played Glenoak May 14 defeating the Eagles 10-3. Then they travel to play the Bulldogs May 15 defeating them 6-0. The girls played another OHSAA tournament game against Green May 19 defeating the Bulldogs 4-0. On May 20, the Vikings had lost against Jackson 1-0 in the OHSAA tournament. The girls played Perry on the Panthers home field winning 10-1. The Vikes traveled to Lake with a 7-6 win. The girls record is 22-7. -Liz Duff Girls LAX The first year girls lacrosse team started their season off strong and ended it with a success with a final record of 10-4. The girls entered the post-season against C.V.L.C. defeating them 12-2. Junior Elizabeth Bucheit led the team in scoring with four goals. The team traveled to Columbus to face off against Bexley in the district finals, however the girls fell short and lost in double overtime, 10-9 which ended their season. Leading the Vikings was sophomore Ally Merten and seniorTaylor Molnar who contributed two goals. -Emily Bergert Boys LAX The boys team played St. Edwards at home May 5 and won 9-6. They then hosted St. Ignatius May 8 and lost 9-10 in the very last minute. On May 12, the Vikings hosted Mennor and buried them 15-1. Then the boys traveled to Jackson May 15, beating the Polar Bears 10-7. They continued their winning ways by beating Lake May 19, 15-1. The boys lacrosse team is sitting at a record of 11-6 heading into regionals. They earned a fourth seed, and played Kent Mentor at home May 23. -Cory Veldhuizen
