Banning the Rah's Embed This Article
When it comes to high school, many students think that they must “earn” their place on the food chain. How does one gain this so-called respect? Many things come to mind, but one occurs during freshmen year.
The pep rallies are one way that our school shows our spirit. We present the sports teams, cheer for the top players and yell along with the cheerleaders. But one thing has changed this year: the class rah’s.
It has become something of tradition to “boo” the freshmen. It happens every year. Once one becomes a senior, they no longer are booed and can even join in the festivities of making fun of the freshmen. These class rah’s have become one of the only things students enjoy about the pep rallies. It is a way to show our spirit and gain our proper place.
So, if it has become a favorite, is it been banned? That question seems to remain unanswered. Yes, the booing can get out of control. But, no, it hasn’t caused any real pain.
Of course, at the most recent pep rally, the banning was nowhere near effective. The seniors started their own class rah’s, and everyone joined in.
We believe that the class rah’s are a right of passage. We all had to go through it. They make high school worthwhile. As for the booing, none of us are crying about it.
