– The United States Military Academy at West Point is located in West Point, New York. It’s about 50 miles North of New York City and overlooks the Hudson River. – There are around 4,500 total undergraduates and 1,300 first-time degree-seeking freshmen. – Cadets are on active duty as members of the U.S. Army and receive an annual salary of approximately $10,148. Room and board, medical and dental care are provided by the Army. – West Point has a residential campus in a small town of about 2,500-9,999 population. – West Point was ranked third in the nation by the Princeton Review for the category “More to Do on Campus.” The campus offers a golf course, skating rink and ski slope. – West Point has been called the “Best Public College or University in America for undergraduate education” by Forbes.com. The Princeton Review also named it in the “100 Best Value Colleges for 2009.” – Military Program is included in West Point’s curriculum from the first day. Cadet Basic Training takes place during the summer and continues into the year. Cadet Field Training takes place at Camp Buckner the second year. The third and fourth summers are spent serving in active Army units around the world. There they can attend advanced training courses such as airborne, air assault or northern warfare.
