Say goodbye to the “Awesome 80’s Prom,” and hello to “Noises Off.”
The administration changed the play to “Noises Off” because “Awesome 80’s Prom” was interactive with the audience and would have to take place in the Commons instead of Hoover Hall.
Mrs. Carol Eastman, the drama club advisor, will be directing the play.
At first, Eastman said she was disappointed that drama club was not going to be doing “Awesome 80’s Prom,” since she spent the summer studying the script for it.
As time passed, she said she was fine with the change.
She added that she was allowed to choose the replacement play, which led to the current production.
“I’m even more excited to do ‘Noises Off,’” she said.
Eastman said it is one of her favorite plays because “it is laughingly hysterical.”
“I have wanted to direct it every year,” she said.
Eastman has no doubts that the play will turn out great because “high school kids love humor.”
Drama Club member senior Julie Benedetto said she is also excited to do Noises Off.
“I’m kind of pumped,” she said. “I love being on stage and the show is hysterical.”
The fact that the play is on a stage gives you more freedom, she said.
Not everyone is excited about the change though. Senior Nick Turgeon, who plays Tim, liked the original idea to do “Awesome 80’s Prom” better.
“I thought the audience interaction was amazing,” he said.
The cast is significantly smaller. There are only five male parts and four female parts. Turgeon said he does not like the small cast.
“It’s nice but it makes practice not as much of a party,” he said.
Theater Tech teacher Mr. Kim Jacoby said that the change of the play would entail more work, and the tech part would be difficult in the Commons.
He added it will also be expensive because at the conclusion of every show, a portion of the set has to fall apart.
However, the play within the play aspect does not make it more difficult. The lighting changes will be used to cue parts of the play.
Turgeon said that the timing just has to be perfect to get the “comedic effect.”
“We have to sell it,” he said.
