Forty-Love. To many this sounds like a foreign language but for tennis players like junior Mandy Wise this is nothing out of the ordinary.
Wise has been playing tennis since she was seven. Her parents encouraged her to play a sport and she picked tennis. While she enjoys the sport, Wise said she does not plan to play on a college team after she graduates.
However, Wise enjoys watching her favorite professional player Andy Roddick play.
“He has a great serve, he battles and never gives up,” she said.
These are qualities that fellow teammate junior Olivia Sutter said she sees in Wise.
“[She is] so smart on the court. She is a fighter, she doesn’t give up,” Sutter said.Winning is not always an easy part of the sport. But for Wise winning does not seem to be a problem. This season alone she has had 27 wins and eight losses.
“You can always count on her to win,” Sutter said.
Wise said being able to count on your team, even if you lose, is her favorite part of the sport.
“You can always depend on your team,” she said.
The dependency goes both ways, and Sutter said with Wise it is exception. Whether it is to win or just cheer on her team, Wise is there.
“You can always count on her to cheer you up,” Sutter said.
