While the fall sports are wrapping up, or heading into the post-season, the winter sports are getting ready to begin. Girls basketball practice begins November 2, while boys basketball practice begins November 6. The girls will have their first scrimmage November 18, and the boys opening scrimmage is November 21 against Cincinnati Moeller, and Mentor.
Also, the boys and girls swimming, wrestling, and hockey teams will begin practice November 6. The boys and girls bowling teams and the wrestling team will open practice a week later, November 13.
One Stark County record has been broken and another is about to be broken. The reigning Mr. Football, senior Erick Howard, has set the Stark County record for career rushing yards. His current total is 5,266 yards, which broke the record of 5,177 yards that was set in 2006 by McKinley running back Morgan Williams. Heading into the McKinley game, Erick had scored 436 points in his career. He needed 11 more points, or two touchdowns, to break the record of 446 points set in 2005 by Northwest’s Scott Weber. Howard did set the school scoring record in the Fitch game, by surpassing the mark of 426 points set in 1972 by Jeff Logan.n
