You may be in the market for a new computer. What do you want touse your computer for: games, business, multimedia, or value? The PC ismore commonly found in the workplace and you probably have had a PC inyour house at one time. If your goal is to keep it simple then the PC isthe computer to buy. Another reason to buy a PC is that most games aremade for the PC. For example Age of the Empires, Empire Total War, orFall Out 3 are made for the PC but cannot be played on the Mac. The onedownside of the PC is that thousands of viruses and worms are writtenfor it. The newest ones can strike even if you are vigilant aboutmaintaining anti-virus software. The final reason you might want tobuy a PC is the value of a new PC laptop is about $600 compared to theprice of the lowest cost Mac laptop which is $1100. Under some circumstances you might consider the Mac. If you are intomultimedia then this is the computer for you. The movie program iMovieor the picture program iPhoto are arguably superior to their PCcounterparts and are seamlessly integrated. The music program GarageBand is a great way to pass the time. I have spent a lot of timelearning the ins and outs of Garage Band like you can play aninstrument even if you don't have one with the software instruments andthe keyboard. If you don't want to do that you can use theprerecorded loops (segments of rhythm or beats). Then there is thevirus factor which is that generally PC's get viruses and Macs do not.But don't be fooled a Mac can get a virus. A Mac system is not prone togetting a virus but it could happen if a determined hacker reallywanted to. Mac programs can get micro viruses which strike individualprograms like Microsoft Word. Another thing is that Mac is getting morepopular among college students. There are some games for Mac but therange is small -- only games like Sims and Spore. The one main game thatis out for the Mac is Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Sowhat computer should you buy? Overall, you should base the computeryou want to buy on what you are going to be using it for.
