Mrs. Luchner is a new Spanish teacher at The Lab School. She moved from Costa Rica and then she moved to the USA in June 2008 after getting married. She currently lives in Arlington, Virginia. She went to college at University of Costa Rica. She loves to teach and ever since she was a little girl she has always wanted to teach. She taught at a public school in Columbia Heights with 3 and 4 year old kids that had learning disabilities or special needs. She feels like it was a great experience because she learned a lot. The way she was employed at The Lab School was that she had heard from other people that Lab School was a great school. "I think everybody has a disability; a disability is one of those things that are the hardest to do in life. Now that I'm using a foreign language on a daily basis, the ability to use writing skills fluently to express myself is the hardest part." Mrs. Luchner decided to teach Spanish because she is from a Spanish speaking country. She added, "I have been here for about a month and I can say that what I know about LSW so far is great." The one thing she feels is a challenge is for her students to know the Spanish language. The way she grades her tests is based on the ability of her students to know how to speak a new language, even when the grammar is not completely correct. Mrs. Luchner loves pets and she grew up with all kinds of animals. When she was moving to the United States she decided she was going to adopt a pet, so they now have a one year old Jack Russell Terrier that she adopted from the Washington Human Society. Her name is Azucar which means "sugar" in Spanish. She says that she is the friendliest and happiest dog she has ever had, and Sugar has a lot of energy. The sport that Ms. Luchner loves to watch is soccer, although she doesn't play. She hikes, bikes, runs, and she likes to do outside sports. When she is listening to music she can not stop dancing. She loves to dance, and she loves the Salsa and Meringue.
