The Lab School of Washington is very fortunate to have Ms. Fox as the full-time substitute teacher for the high school. She is in her first year at The Lab School.
While she was in high school, Ms. Fox says she liked the idea of being a teacher and that in college it made sense that she wanted to be a teacher. She worked with learning disabled kids when she had a part-time job as an English teacher at the Nora School in Silver Spring, Maryland. Before she was at LSW, she was a private tutor which she still is now. She says that she wanted a full-time job and had heard about LSW's good reputation.
"I wasn't sure what the students would be like, and how they would compare to the students that I had taught, but I have been pleased that the students have been friendly, polite, and attentive,"said Ms. Fox when she was asked about her expectations at LSW. When asked whether she has enjoyed herself so far, Ms. Fox says that everyone at school is very nice and she does like working at The Lab School of Washington. Even though she does enjoy it so far, there is one aspect that she would like to change. She is not assigned to a parking spot which means that she has to come to school earlier to find one. When asked if there is one particular thing she likes about The Lab School of Washington she says, "I think the teachers are very professional and the students seem to appreciate the fact that everyone is working together for their benefit." Ms. Fox says that the one thing that has surprised her the most so far is that the classrooms are small, that the gym and theater are both beautiful, and that the school has no cafeteria. The most challenging thing so far for her is trying to know all the students' and teachers' names and to have an understanding of how The Lab School runs. Ms. Fox says that she has trouble on the computer but does want to learn because she does spend time on the computer. The most rewarding thing so far for Ms. Fox is that she feels she gets along with the students well. Her favorite subject to teach is English.
When she's not working she likes to cook food, be with her family, go traveling and collect antiques. Ms. Fox never had a pet when she was younger and still doesn't have one today because she is not a pet person.
When asked about the one thing she would like to get out of teaching at The Lab School, she says, "I would like to get a better understanding of the challenges facing the students here and find out what methods work and which ones do not work for them."
