The Whitman cheerleading team is brand new this year. The season started August sixteenth and they have been practicing ever since. However, this year, Whitman has a new cheer coach, Lynn Frieda. Lynn went to high school here at Whitman and cheered for five seasons for former coach Karen Lahue. When Lahue retired, she suggested Lynn take over coaching. Lynn moved back to New York from California and she has always been passionate about cheerleading, so coaching was the best way to get back into it. Furthermore, she plans on coaching others seasons in the future.

The cheerleaders still have a whole season ahead of them though. When asked how she thought the team was doing so far she said, "I am very impressed with the girls so far. They have incredible work ethic that has really helped them improve." She had nothing but good to say about homecoming, "I think homecoming went very well. It was the second time the team performed their routine to the audience and they are getting better every time. The girls have a lot of potential and I can’t wait to see how they do at competition.

Two of the competitions coming up are the Finger Lakes League Championship on October 19^th at Newark. Also, sectionals are on October 30^th at RIT. She says, "We have been preparing for these competitions all season. We had twenty one hours of cheer camp early on in the season and the girls attend gymnastics every week as well as daily practices." The girls have a lot ahead of them and they are preparing for competitions as much as they can. Good luck to the Whitman cheerleaders!
