On March 2nd, our Leadership Class departed to Washington D.C. All twenty-seven students and four chaperones arrived at the school at 6:00 AM in order to depart at 6:30 sharp. After six hours of travel, the students officially arrived at America’s capital. Mr. McLaughlin, Mrs. Frank, Mr. Barden, and Mr. DeGroote chaperoned the field trip.

The students participated in many activities over their journey to D.C. These activities include tours such as: Capitol Hill, Old Post Office Pavilion, Ford’s Theatre, Arlington National Cemetery, Dinner Cruise, Walking the Smithsonian Museum Complex, and most importantly, the students toured the White House. The Leadership Class worked all year in order to afford this trip to D.C. Most of the students believe that this trip was the highlight of their Leadership experience because they were able to see all the greatest examples from our history. The Leadership Class began a countdown at the beginning of the school year that started in excess of one hundred days. Mr. McLaughlin would get the students excited and energized by encouraging them to do all that they can in order to make this trip possible. Slowly, but surely, the travel day finally arrived.

At the White House, the students had the opportunity to walk through the diplomatic room, where President Barak Obama himself had previously given a speech. The students also got to walk thought the East Colonnade, which is the central hallway with which all important leadership figures walk though on a regular basis.

Overall, the Leadership Class had a very memorable and educated time in D.C. Hopefully now, each of these students will be more motivated to be the best leaders they can be.
