For the past several years CHS has been dominating the Pioneer Valley League. However, is there a change on the horizon? The recent realignment of the PVL league has several new teams and those teams are going to bring plenty of competition for Colfax. The proposed change will not take place until the 2006-2007 year, but is already causing a stir among the athletic teams who are expecting the change. On the proposed list the PVL League will consist of: Bear River, Colfax, El Dorado, Liberty, Lincoln, and Mesa Verde. Liberty is going to be a new high school put in the Roseville area serving the increasing population. According to Boys Varsity coach Mr. Wade Wolff, he is glad to get rid of the Sacramento teams so it cuts down on his teams travel distance, but when it comes to Liberty High School he says, “…you never know what you’re (Colfax) going to face.” Boys Varsity Football Coach Tony Martello had some different ideas about the upcoming league change. He agreed with Coach Wolff saying the travel time was going to be a lot easier that what is has been in the past, but he adds that the league will be “…much more even.” He was unsure about the future of the Varsity football program in 2006, but he said that with CHS’ own character and their own strengths they should be fine. He ended saying that his 2006 football team “should be very competitive.” Tim Aukerman, junior varsity volleyball coach last season says that the proposal is a much needed change in the PVL. “We have dominated this league for the last three years, and I am looking forward to seeing how well the new teams in the league will match up,” Aukerman says. The proposal league change will test the competitiveness and strengths of the Colfax athletic teams. However this league change is not final, so until then CHS will watch and wait to see if they are going to be any more changes in the PVL league.
