The team huddles up before the game on September 4th - Bianca Pierro

Just like every delicious recipe, a great team needs an immense amount of time, ingredients, and determination to come out on top.  Varsity volleyball’s coach, Terry Weber, is stirring up a few changes on the court. After a few weeks of observing every strength and weakness, a slightly different recipe has been developed.

By making Lexie Forrester the new libero (back row only) and Jody Weber the new setter, a few small gaps on the court were able to be filled. “I saw a lot of improvement with the line-up change,” said Weber. “We still have a few small things to fix on defense as well as service errors, but the girls are steadily improving.”

Last Thursday, the varsity and JV teams drove an hour and ten minutes away from our home court to play at Nature Coast High. At first the Lady Tigers dominated the scoreboard, playing better than ever before. Jody Weber played impressively scoring five kills, two aces, three tips, and five assists. Lexie Forrester earned the team eight service points and six digs. Nicole Drew demonstrated improvement with her six aces, seven tips, and three assists.

But with Kayla McMann out for the week, the pack was lacking a key part. Unfortunately, they had only won one of the rounds played. The JV girls also lost.

Against the Meadowbrook Mustangs on Sept. 5, the Lady Tigers won the first game (20-25), and lost the other two rounds (16-25) (19-25). It was a rough night for the ladies. Forrester skid the ground hard and Otero’s glasses were knocked off.

As volleyball season continues on, the schedule keeps challenging the teams to find the time to practice, and practice harder they will. Although the coaches fear Homecoming week will prove to be a challenge, with three games (at home Monday and Tuesday, and at Tavares on Sept. 13) amid the scheduled activities. “I just hope the distractions of the daily events don't cause the girls to lose focus,” said Weber. The lady tigers prepare to face Bradford, Crystal River, and Tavares.
