At 12:01 in the morning on March 21 the Twilight DVD was released to hundreds of waiting fans. The prior evening, select valley locations hosted release parties from 10 p.m. until midnight where fans were able to participate in raffles and games.
Junior Cierra Waller attended the event at the Wal-Mart on Lake Pleasant Parkway and Deer Valley.
“I got there around 11 p.m.,” Waller said. “There were a lot of people and they all had their Twilight shirts on.”
Waller has already watched the DVD numerous times since she bought it at midnight.
“I couldn’t wait to buy the movie,” Waller said. “I watched it five times within the first two days and I watched all the deleted scenes.”
Special education teacher Sarah Roddy went to the release party at the Hot Topic located in Arrowhead Mall.
“The line to play the games was down by the Just Sports area,” Roddy said. “To buy the DVD you had to get in another line that was down to the elevators.”
Roddy also noticed that people came dressed for the event.
“I saw one girl with a tail and a werewolf paw print on her side,” Roddy said. “There were lots of people in Twilight shirts and the employees of the store were wearing fangs.”
The two-disc DVD comes packed with hours of special features such as deleted scenes, audio commentary with director Catherine Hardwicke and cast members Kristen Stewart (Bella) and Rob Pattinson (Edward) as well as a seven-part making-of documentary.
The commentary offers little insight for the fans. Hardwicke and Stewart spend their time commenting on the scenery and weather while Pattinson critiques his appearance.
The documentary includes interviews with Hardwicke, cast and crew members and author of the book series Stephenie Meyers. However, the documentary fails to offer any refreshingly new material.
The DVD also offers music videos from bands featured on the movie’s soundtrack. Paramore, Linkin Park and Muse videos can be found on the first disc of the DVD.
While the special features give fans another reason to dedicate hours of their lives to the Twilight phenomenon, nothing extremely exciting is offered. For the die-hard fans, more interesting videos can probably be found on YouTube.
