Elke Kuegle, biology and German teacher at SHS, received the 2011-2012 Teacher of Distinction Award this year. Kuegle moved to Rapid City in 2000 and began teaching German and Biology at Stevens High School six years ago.
“I love it, absolutely love it. The kids are great, everybody is so friendly. It’s a good working environment,” Kuegle said.
Stevens faculty voted for Kuegle to be honored with the Teacher of Distinction Award. Each faculty member gives three reasons why a certain teacher should receive the award, and then votes again for the final decision.
“Everybody loves her. They are amazed at what she does. She’s inspiring,” Stevens’ Spanish teacher Angela Giffin said.
The staff looks for a teacher who works well with the students and the rest of the staff.
“I feel really honored I got chosen. I love what I do and seeing the students every day, and seeing them excited to learn,” Kuegle said.
