In 1990 under the National and Community Service Act, President Bill Clinton signed legislation to create the Corporation of National and Community Service, thus creating the program best known as Learn and serve. At Stevens High School students are granted the opportunity to serve their community through shadowing someone in their chosen field, taking classes to better educate them on their career interests, and doing community service. 
    " I have students who even after they have completed the service required for the class continue to serve because they have learned so much and just have a passion for what they are doing," said Lara Storm, director of  Stevens High School Learn and Serve Program. 
     The program at Stevens has been active for about 6 or 7 years and has about 120 students participate in the program each school year.
