Everyday students are late to school due to traffic or waking up late, and these tardies have consequences. Once the student has accumulated three or more tardies they are signed up for Saturday school. Leanne Gallegos Sophomore says, “This new rule is fair, because if they didn’t have it, more students would take advantage of being late a lot more.”
The three tardies Saturday school is not something a student wants to deal with, but some say that this is better than SWEEP. Leanne said, “I like the fact that I can go straight to class when I get here, and not waist time at SWEEP.” People think that Saturday school is a new addition at Valley, but what they don’t know is that last year SWEEP assigned Saturday school to students who were in there too much. Basically it’s the same deal, except students this year get to show up to class when they are late.
Students should find a new way to be early to school, so they have enough time to go to their lockers and get everything they need to be prepared for their classes. If they don’t know how to change this themselves, then they should be talking to their parents or carpool to try to arrive at school on time. If you have an acceptable reason for being late, then have your parents call you in a pass and you will be excused.
If you are someone who is late to school, you might want to find a way to come earlier so you don’t get Saturday school! Wake up early to beat the traffic or come at least five minutes earlier than you usually do to have time to get to class without a tardy!
