Are you interested in world and government issues? Then you should join the Model United Nations club. “In Model U.N. we participate in a general assembly with many other schools in New Mexico. The conference takes place in Santa Fe November 19-21. We also conduct field trips, fund raise, and do community service,” says Kendra Poole (12th)president of Model U.N.
Model U.N. members learn about public speaking, world issues, and the United Nations. This program gives students the opportunity to debate issues in international politics and ethics. Diana Solis (12th), a returning Model U.N. member, believes that “Model United Nations will benefit you as a student because it gives you a new perspective on how other countries work, and how we as Americans view those other countries.”
We are amidst the time of global interconnectedness. This year students will learn multi-cultural understanding and international decision-making process. They must be prepared to listen and understand complex issues, debate with others, and come to an educated decision to hopefully benefit our world.
The debating and communication between students will increase the international understanding and negotiation. Before they take their trip to Santa Fe, the Model United Nations members meet every Thursday during lunch in C-5b to get a feel for what it’s all about! If you are interested in talking about the furtherment of global peace and tranquility, join now!
