This is the first year Valley High hasn’t had tutoring since the school opened. There was tutoring for math, Spanish, and a few other subjects. With the help of tutoring, there was an improvement in grades. Tutoring was held in the upstairs media center on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Students would go there from 3:15pm to 4:00pm. The reason it was canceled was because not that many students were showing up. Many students involved in after school extracurricular activities may have had trouble keeping up grades because they did not have the time to attend tutoring. Tutoring was started to help students improve their studies and get help on any work that they had trouble with. Tutoring would probably have had more of an impact on some students’ grades if it was at a time that worked better with their schedules. Many students feel differently about tutoring. Some feel that we need it and others feel that we don’t. Maya Combs 10th grade stated, “Yes we need tutoring back because students are getting dumber and dumber each year.” It is an opinion that varies among students, but the lack of tutoring has affected at least a few students.
