The Officers of Valley’s Thespian Troop 1197 are: Mary Formhals, president, Marisa Tapia, vice president, Isabel Morris, treasurer, Ali Candelaria aka Alice, secretary, Savannah Montes, publicity, and Kris Klarer, historian. All of the officers have had their job since the end of last year when they were elected. Each of the officers enjoy their jobs and enjoy them for different reasons. Formhals says, “I like theater. I like to organize banquets and initiations.” Tapia enjoys having a say in workings of the Drama department and she enjoys the leadership position she’s taken on. Morris really likes the fact that she gets thespian points and can be more involved. Candelaria also enjoys the level of involvement and the authority. Even though Montes sometimes has a hard time at figuring out all of the stuff to put in the programs, but she says it can be cool and fun.
Formhals and Tapia said the blackout during Steel Magnolias’ final show was exciting because they got to try out their improv skills. “One of the interesting things about drama is all the crazy inside stuff. Because every show has its special place in my heart and crazy stuff happens in every show,” Candelaria says as she thinks back on all the shows. Some of the shows the officers really like were Red Nail Polish, Frankenstein, A Thurber Carnival, Dracula, almost all of them really enjoyed Steel Magnolias.
Some funny quirks about the officers: Formhals has a three-legged cat and she doesn’t know her natural hair color. Tapia says, “My best friend is my dog and my purse. I also have an interesting and uncontrollable fetish with crayons, because I like to melt them.” Morris does costume, has a fat cat, and likes to long board. Candelaria says, “I need Cooper to function, I am an excellent stage manger, and I have Touretes. Drama has made me more confident in myself.” Montes is a gigantic Harry Potter Nerd and she is also fluent in sign language. Klarer is a published poet and a black belt.
