The murals have been a part of Ringgold tradition since 1998. It has been significant in the artists lives that their paintings can be viewed on the walls. As long as Ringgold stands there shall always be art decorating the walls. This is an inside look on how murals are created. This article will give a step by step guide for any aspiring artists who would also like a mural on the walls of Ringgold High School.

-

First you must be serious about art, love it, live it, and breath it to even be considered worthy to do a painting.

-

Second you have to take art for all 4 years of highschool. From 9th grade all the way to 12th grade.

-

Next in your third year of art, at the very end of the year Mrs. Robison will ask you to over the summer think of an idea for the mural. You must have an idea by the start of your senior year.

-

When you enter your senior year you must present your sketch to Mrs. Robison. You will have several days to get it finalized and colored. It must be fully colored and ready.

-

You then turn in the project to Mrs. Robison, it is out of your hands now and into the hands of Mr. Homa. He will approve of dissapprove of your mural idea.

-

While waiting for Mr. Homa you can now get your box of supplies that consists of a set of paintbrushes, a cloth, paper towels, newspaper or a tarp, a can of water, and of course paint.

-

When it returns to you hopefully it has been approved. If it is, congratulations, you can now begin.

-

Picking a spot is prime. You now get to pick where you want your mural. You can’t have it where a mural, that is less then 4 years old, resides.

-

Once a spot is picked you must dawn your smock and start the process of priming the wall. Primer is essential because it will make the paint stick to the wall. Don’t forget to put newspaper down as well as tape along the borders.

-

Priming is now complete. You can now start either painting the backround or tracing the outline of your picture with a projector.

-

Now that the backround is done, or the main part is outlined, or both, you can start painting the main picture.

-

You must have all your supplies with you, usually teachers allow you to keep them in their rooms.

-

You have the entire first nine weeks to paint. Mrs. Robison helps you along the way with tips and advice as well as helping you paint certain parts if you get stuck.

-

Once your painting is done, stand back and take a good look, you survived crazy teachers, critisizing students, and wrist cramps from painting for so long.
