The 2009 NHL Playoff matchups are set and it looks to be a very exciting time in the sport. With all of the teams known along with their seeds, the players ready themselves for the tough playoff run. The games are as follows. In the Western Conference the number 1 seed San Jose Sharks will play the Anaheim Ducks. The number 4 seed Chicago Blackhawks face off against the Calgary Flames. The number 2 seed Detroit Red Wings will play the Columbus Blue Jackets, and finally in the Western playoffs it will be the Vancouver Canucks against the St. Louis Blues. The Eastern Conference playoffs also offer many good games. The number 1 seed Boston Bruins will play the Montreal Canadiens. The Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Philadelphia Flyers. The number 2 seed Washington Capitals will play the 7 seed New York Rangers. The final series in the Eastern Playoffs pits the number 3 seed New Jersey Devils against the Carolina Hurricanes.
All 16 of these teams have the potential the reach the Stanley Cup, but in my opinion the Pittsburgh Penguins will be this year’s champions. They are an offensive powerhouse in the Eastern Conference. With Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin on the ice they are a tough team to stop. With these playmakers and lots of veteran leadership they have an excellent chance to win the Stanley Cup
