The school fight song - it stands for what the school is about and contributes school spirit.
Why is learning the fight song for our school not important? Does this mean our school spirit is not as high as it used to be when our teachers went to school?
If people believed that learning the fight song is important, why have we just now heard of what our fight song is?
“I think we just don’t think it is a big deal as much as they used to,” said senior Alex Baker. “We don’t need to know a song to show school spirit.”
We have ways to show how much we support our school. We have pep rallies, and the cheerleaders give candy out to the football players on every game day.
We announce sports and activities and tell the student body about upcoming events and how previous events have gone. I believe this helps us stay completely updated on what is going on throughout the school.
“It was tradition,” said social science teacher Larry Deiter. “We were required to know it, and when everyone sang it before games, it created an intimidation factor
It seems that the tradition of learning the fight song now is a non-existent one. We have, however, been trying to learn it now that some have thought of it as being important for our school.
I also believe that it would be an intimidation factor if we all knew it and sang it as a community before every sporting event. It would shake the gym and set hype for the upcoming game.
Traditions are things that every school should have, and I don’t think we have remembered the traditions that we need. Creating new traditions and following through with old ones can create a better atmosphere for our school.
