The girls’ soccer team and the baseball have been now practicing for about three weeks and are geared up for their first game of the season. Both teams are hoping to improve on last year’s effort which could result in a couple district titles.
The girls’ soccer team will be opening their 2009 season on Monday, March 23rd at home against the Blackcats of Fredericktown. The girls did not have much success last year as far as record goes but Erica Inman and Audrey Gibson had very successful years. Fredericktown defeated the Raiders last season but the Blackcats lost several starters and key players from their last year’s team. Therefore, North County should be able to get a victory next Monday. This is a new year and anything can happen so come on out and supports the lady soccer team.
The North County baseball has been most constant team at North County over the past four years. The Raiders almost always have a winning record which usually results in conference, district, and even state championships. Though, this year will be extremely hard for the team. NC has been put into the toughest district in the state. Teams that are included in their district are; Farmington, Jackson, Cape Notre Dame, and Sikeston. The players still think they have a shot to win the district! If North County can win their district they have a realistic shot of getting to and winning state. Though, Coach Kyle Yount realizes you must take the season one game at a time and that all starts on Monday, March 23rd at home against the Sullivan Eagles. The Raiders could accomplish some big things this year and they need all the support they can get.
