“This year was a learning experience for a lot of our boys,” stated Mr. Schonhardt.  This year’s team consisted of mostly sophomores and freshmen.  With several new players, the team had to work incredibly hard to keep up with the rest of the conference.  “As we continue to grow (our numbers have been increasing as well), we’ll get more experienced at soccer and working as a team,” Coach Schonhardt continued.  This year the raiders played some very talented teams (Saxony Lutheran, Farmington, and St.Pius).  “Our district is tough, but that gives us a reason to work harder so we can compete with them in the future,” Mr. Schonhardt assured.

The seniors this year were great leaders.  Sam Hulsey, Jimmy Lashley, Lucca, and Tyler LaPlant were all out for a good final year.  Only one soccer player has played for all four years, Jimmy Lashley.  “After four long years, soccer is over,” he said.  He plans to try to play at Rolla.  Jimmy has been a great defender for the Raiders, and Sam Hulsey, a good captain on and off the field.

This year was Tyler LaPlant’s first year and his last.  “He really picked up on the sport quickly,” Coach Schonhardt declared.  Tyler served the Raiders well as their mid wing.

Mr.Schonhardt wasn’t sure about MVP’s.  He did say that there were some varsity guys that deserved recognition though.  These included Anthony Kunz, Lucca, Sam Hulsey, Brett Willette, and Zach Franklin.  Some of the most improved were Logan Rawson, Ty Broombaugh, Austin Schrum, JT Edgar, and Josh Ruble.  Many of the players gave their all this season to become better athletes.

“Our fans have been great,” said Coach Schonhardt.  Even though the Raiders had a rough season, the fans have always been supportive of the team.  Despite the score or weather, they cheered them on.  It has been a fun year for all.  “Parents bring cookies to most of the games to celebrate (even if we lose), so that is greatly appreciated,” concluded Coach Schonhardt.
