On January 5, 2011, three of North County’s students traveled to Ste. Gen to run for FCCLA’s regional executive council. Sean Cowin, Katie Morris, and Allyssa Welch are all part of the executive council here at our school but they wanted to expand their horizons and go a little further. To run for the council, the candidates had to write a speech, answer a fact question about FCCLA, and answer a situation question. All of this had to be done in front of 20-25 people. Fifteen of those people would then vote.
Having the opportunity to attend and be a voting delegate, I got to witness how great our three students did! We now have two members of the 2011-2012 FCCLA regional executive council from North County. Sean Cowin will be returning as Devotional Leader and Allyssa Welch will be the 2nd Vice President. Both of these students will have the chance to enhance their leadership skills through FCCLA next year.
Next, FCCLA has quite a few events to work on. First they have the annual dress exchange that started January 10th and will run until February 4th. On January 31, students will travel to SEMO to compete in S.T.A.R. events. Those receiving gold will advance on to state in March. Of course the biggest event is the Sweetheart dance which will be held February 19th. They are already working hard on this event and hope to make it fun and memorable for everyone.
