The 'Arty' Part of Art: Everyones gotta have a little art... Embed This Article

Taylor Pai a senior in Ceramics 2
The live music, the great people, and the fantastic art were the life of the party shortly after the homecoming game on the night of December the 7. Since the beginning of the year, Huntington Beach High School students have been working to the bone on putting there finishing touches on some of the greatest master pieces of Huntington’s 2008 class.

Students like Seirra Segeberg were there for the night of the show to enjoy the reactions of her friends and family after viewing the art. Seirra’s painting of the sea creatures was one of the student’s favorites in the art show. Austin Reverditto said, “The fact that on the picture you can see where she actually placed real sand and seashells makes the piece so much more original than any other here. I also noticed that on the crab you can see the sign for cancer, (which is the horoscope sign for birth dates through June 22-July 22) that detail out of anything just blows my mind thinking about all of the time and effort put into it.”

While paintings were one thing, a group of three girls managed to get together and make a table full of stuffed animal dolls for the art show. Dani Mandley, Natasha Watson and Sarah Wall had made little Christmas ornaments, elephants and others animals that were indescribable of there kingdom but very original and fetching. Dani Mandley commented on her inspiration for making them saying, “I started making little dolls in middle school and it wasn’t until I saw the movie, The Science of Sleep that my creative love for making these monsters was in full effect”

Of course one of the most fascinating parts of the whole show was the ceramic art work that students had achieved for this years show. Students like Matt Braun, Taylor Pai, Christa Bryan (Graduate from class of 2007), and Chantelle Hanson all put their best efforts for this year. Mr. Stryker, the ceramic art teacher, commented on his students work, “I was extremely surprised in such a great turnout! I think that the next show in the spring will get bigger and will be a great fundraiser for our department.” Plans for spring of 2008 plan to hold the art show/pottery sale in the art building and are planning to get more creative with it this next time around.

After viewing the inspiring art, students finished off the night with live music for everyone’s enjoyment. Like a fellow student Said, “Nights like these, should happen every night.”
