At Flour Bluff High School,
there is a family of four brothers
and a sister who are pretty
well known, and very much
liked. Rueben, Ryan, Rashon,
and Ramon Flowers have all
either been or are still students
at Flour Bluff High
School. It would seem like
growing up in a household
with four brothers would be
a blast and probably even a
bit of an adventure, however,
one thing is sure, it has made
these brothers very well
known at Flour Bluff High
School.
Rueben Flowers is 19 years
old and graduated in 2005.
Ryan Flowers is a senior and
is 18 years old. Rashon Flowers
is a junior and is 17 years
old, and last but not least Ramon
Flowers is a freshman
and is 15 years old. They have
a three year old sister named
Jade who they take turns
babysitting.
First of all, having the last
name of Flowers is a bit eye
opening, but having four
brothers, all with the first
name beginning with the letter
“R” would be even a bit
more eye opening, and maybe
even confusing to some
people.
“Yeah, [people get our names
mixed up] all the time, except
mine because I’m the youngest.
But my older brothers
have their names mixed up all
the time. And I wear glasses,
which I think helps,” Ramon
said.
The second youngest brother,
Rashon, thinks it’s important
to have brothers growing
up.
“It’s crucial for brothers to
have brothers because you
never get bored. You always
have someone to beat up on.
You know, we be clownin’, “
Rashon said.
Growing up with four brothers
would also probably include
a lot of shooting the
basketball around, passing
the football, and pretty much
a lot to do with sports. These
brothers all play(ed) football,
all do track, and all play basketball
except for the youngest,
Ramon.
“Yeah, we all play sports and
we push each other. A lot of
people and coaches underestimate
us, since my older
brother [Rueben] was so
good, they expect us to all be
really good. Rueben played
defense and I play [as of now]
offense and so they (automatically)
tried to make me
defense, because he played
defense. It’s like all the coaches
expect one brother to be
just like the other brother,
but we all have our different
skills that we are really good
at,” Ryan said.
Having a lot of brothers
around gives them the opportunity
to practice at any
time.
“All of us play football, we
all do track, and they all play
basketball but I don’t. We kinda
throw the football around
together. I shoot around the
basketball with them, but
don’t play for a team [unlike
the others],” Ramon said.
It would take ones own opinion
of liking growing up with
a bunch of siblings, but to
these brothers, they have
mostly enjoyed it.
