MTV’s new show Scarred disturbs

some students, but entertains others.
Scarred, MTV’s new video

clip/reality show is turning

heads with its graphic nature.

The 30 minute per episode

series consists of four to five

clips every episode of stomach-

sickening videos of several

young adults performing

stunts and extreme sports

tricks, resulting in a corporal

accident. The show, while

sporting a TV-MA rating, is angering

some local students.

Scarred isn’t the only show in

MTV history to depict stunts,

staged or not. The ever-famous

show starring Johnny

Knoxville, which ran from

2000 to 2002, as many fans

can claim, ran grotesque clips

and dares to the joy of 14-18-

year-old boys.

“I think I’ll watch it,” sophomore

Aidan Deleon said.

“Many people have a sick

mind and like seeing people

get hurt. It makes them

laugh.”

Many mothers of students,

along with female students,

are already showing agitation

toward the show, even

with just a 30-minute preview

running on MTV. Yet the actual

premiere is not set for a

week.

“Knowing how women have

been known to react, they will

most likely react negatively to

the show,” sophomore Clint

Ramey said. “They should just

get over it.”

With the motto, “Every scar

has its story,” Scarred is centered

around pain and freak

accidents. Hosted by Papa

Roach’s Colby Dick, even he

may cause a scare with the

viewers. These antics will undoubtedly

stop “unscarred”

viewers to begin watching

the show.

“I haven’t watched it but I

don’t think I’ll start,” sophomore

David Durham said.

“The show, from what I hear,

is gross and not entertaining.”

Watching the show for some

may even require some test of

stomach strength due to the

graphic nature of the show.

Many fans have already posted

their opinions on internet

blogs and message boards.

The talk on the web consists

of calls for cancellation, boycotting

MTV, and even death

threats to Colby Dick.

“The show is sick and twisted,”

Ramey said. “People shouldn’t

enjoy these types of things. I

won’t be watching it.”

Some others may just mock

the show and denounce the

airings.

“I think it’s an unreasonably

unintelligent show,” sophomore

Skeeter Mitchell said. “I

think it’s dumb that people

see the injury of others as

funny.”

The show airs on April 10th

at 9 pm on MTV.
