When listening in on a

conversation about Padre

Staples Mall, more than likely

the phrases “I wish we had

more stores,” or “I wish it were

like the ones out of town” are

heard. People tend to unconsciously

take

advantage of

good things

they have, and

Padre Staples

Mall may be

one of them.

Over the past

few years,

many restorations

and renovations

have

been made,

making the

mall a lot nicer

than it used

to be. With

new stores

like Macy’s, Nine West, and

Forever 21 on the way, the

appeal to the mall is growing.

But what if Padre Staples Mall

was no longer the biggest attraction

for shoppers? A new

mall may be in the future,

and the hopes are high for a

new, clean, big facility.

Convenience is hardly

escapable in Corpus Christi;

unless under unusual circumstances,

it takes no more

than thirty minutes to get

to a destination. Right now,

Padre Staples Mall is located

in a rather suitable part of

town. This new mall, however,

might not be as convenient.

Starplex, which is the

general location to where

this mall may be. For some, it

doesn’t matter where it’s located,

they just look forward

to another place to shop.

“If it’s better than the mall

we have, then it’s fine with

me,” junior Shayla Duke said.

A new location could open

up more opportunities for

other people to come. It is

farther away from Flour Bluff

and the Island, but other districts

of our city may rejoice

at a new convenience for

them. This could even make

it easier for surrounding suburbs

to come in to shop.

“I think more people from

Callalen and TM might go

more often,” Duke said.

Others think that a move

could have

a negative

impact on the

mall and it’s

business.

“I think that

moving the

mall would

cause it to lose

a lot of business,”

sophomore

Kristin

Halverson said.

“Right now,

it is as good

location close

to all of the

restaurants

and kind of in the middle of

town. I also think that moving

it would cause a rougher

crowd to hang out there

because there have been

shootings and stabbings at

Tinseltown a lot lately!”

Corpus is constantly finding

ways to make the city a more

desirable place for tourists

and its own habitants. A new

mall could be just the attraction

we need.
