do rumors really rule?

“Did you hear?” is a question that goes around Santaluces High School every day. Rumors spread through campus like fire in a dry forest on a hot summer day. Rumors like fights, who’s dating who, which party was hot, who was getting down, drama and more. Of course the list never ends including the strange rumor that spread that make you either think that has to be true or there is no way it can be true.

I, personally, can say sometimes rumors can get to me, but most of the time I just brush them off and keep going with life. I think most people don't like to admit that sometimes rumors get to them. Some people just put on fronts that rumors don’t stick in the back of their mind like peanut butter on the roof of their mouth.

Rumors can harm people most of the time usually not physically, but it could lead to something physical. Rumors can hurt someone mentally or emotionally, but some students here at santaluces had a different opinion on rumors.

“I feel rumors are a bunch of talk,” says senior Taimesha Bivins “It doesn’t affect me because I don’t listen to it”

The responses were not what I expected seeing that there are fights and someone whispering to someone everywhere I turn in Santaluces.

"Rumors are everywhere you go," says Coach Brooks "Its whether you want to partake in them or not"

It seems like Santaluces is a mascot to the old adage "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" because every person I interviewed about this topic basically felt the same way.

"Rumors are unecessary, they start fights," says Senior Marie Dyna Cidera "Rumors don't affect me because I don't put myself in the position to be talked about. For example, the group of friends you make."
