By far one of the strangest words to ever hear around school is "smencil." But this word carries behind it a school wide fan base and the students smell why. Smencils are gourmet number two pencils made of recycled newspapers with different smells instead of designs. Smencils come in a variety of flavors like cinnimon, cotton candy, black cherry, orange and bubble gum. The pencils help promote recycling as well as help the Science Department pay for future labs and field trips they want to take. "Smencils are great," says sophomore Jasmine Bland, treasurer of the Science Club. "They are a fruity smelling way the get kids to recycle." Smencil posters were put up around the school and really got people intruiged. A smelly pencil seems a little far fetched. But on contact with these pencils, students have grown to adore them. Students blame their multitude of aromas as well as a strange love of the pencils for their popularity. "Smencils are totally awesome," said Tony Bertram. "I love being able to smell all different fruits and candies while I write a report. It's great." Smencils are sold in Mrs. Doughty and Ms. Coppock's rooms. "quote for doughty or coppock."
