In a hot crowded room, forty plus children gather to join the Key Club. The room was too small, so they proceeded to the media center where they lined up the peanut butter and jelly, took out the bread, slapped on some gloves and started their mission to feed the homeless.

Ms.Wolters, the sponsor, supervised while the officers and president of Key Club took charge and really acted on their title.

"I thought this would be a waste of my time," says president of the Key Club Gesica Zuniga. "But I really started to enjoyed it, the feeling of helping others, and it's a great way to meet other people."

Every year the Key Club starts off the first day of their club by making these peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It might have been done by many Key Clubers before, but for some students it was their first time.

"Today's my first day," says Senior, Adrianna Travieso. "It was interesting and fun because I got to be with my friends and cousin."

With plastic knives covered in peanut butter and jelly all over the tables of the media center, and the stacks of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches quickly growing, students were still waiting for their turn to be apart of the rewarding effort. Unfortunatley there wasn't enough for everyone to put together a sandwich. But many kids just enjoyed being there, helping out, and making new friends.

It ended with a box full of sandwiches ready to be eaten, a table covered in knives and half empty peanut butter and jelly jars, and a media center filled with the aroma of peanut butter and jelly.

"We do Key Club because we help the community, and the community needs help," says Senior Latore Price. "I've been in Key Club for four years, and I love it. I make new friends and we actually do something good, and we're not goofing off."
