The 2008 Race to the Presidency

The 2008 presidential election has definitely been a hot topic this year. Interest seems to be very high with the Democratic Party and their chance of making history. This year’s democratic candidates are Senator Barack Obama(Illinois) and Senator Hillary Clinton(New York). These two candidates have many things to offer America, and as we have seen, America is torn between the two.

Each candidate seems to bring more interest and primary votes in from people who usually don’t bother to vote or take an interest in the presidential elections every 4 years. They both have brought out numerous young voters. Obama has inspired numerous African American voters and Hillary connects with many women voters. They both have an edge over the other, but one is not stronger than the other.

By watching the polls of all the primary votes it is easy to say that neither one of these candidates will be able to reach 2,025 delegates in order to get the democratic ticket. It looks like this one will come down to the super delegates. As of March 13, 2008 the standings for the total delegates were 1,611 for Barack Obama and 1,480 for Hillary Clinton. That is only a difference of 131 delegates. With only a few states left in the primary elections, everyone wonders who will win the final democratic ticket. Many say that the democrats will need the primary votes of Florida and Michigan in order for someone to reach the golden number of 2,025. Others say that even if those states count it will not make a difference. For now America waits and wonders which one of these two candidates will receive the democratic ticket.
