At-a-glance

-

As the spring weather approaches, so does the blossoming of bright and vibrant colors in the department stores all over the country.  This time of the year is a time for a fresh start and a new wardrobe.  Fashion week has intensified the interests of critics, viewers, and onlookers by its new look at clothing.  Almost every extreme was seen on the runway.  This is the era of variety and uniqueness, giving leeway to pursuing fashion designers to express their imaginative ideas without ridicule.

Lindsay Degen, a midwestern born designer, has a quirky and intricate style.  Her debut line demonstrated her influence of lines, shapes, and geometric concepts.  When she was growing up, her parents’ careers consisted of science and biology.  Most of her discussions with her parents pertained to to anatomy of the body, and this played a role in her designs.  Degen’s sketches start with basic shapes that are then mutated into a more feminine form.  Her clothing has neutral coloring with fillings of color.   She is definitely a designer to watch in the next coming seasons.

Another designer gaining in popularity is Chadwick Bell.  Bell was born in California but moved to New York to establish his own line with the help of a partner.  He comes from a line of craftsmen which explains his perfection and details in the designs.  Most of his work is blooming with bold coloring.  The silhouette of his pieces are quite eye catching.  They vary from fitted, gleaming suits to overly elaborate dresses.  It would not be surprising to see one of his looks on the red carpet in the coming future.

Suzanne Rae’s designs question the meaning of beauty and where the line is drawn.  Her garments are beautiful and feminine but are presented in a less feminine manner.  Some of of pictures of her work are set in the middle of a forest.  Dirt is smeared on the dresses making them apart of nature.  This intrigues viewers and fascinates them by the outlook of fashion.  Should fashion be clean, crisp, and big city orientated?  Or can it be dirty, unknown, but represent beauty at the same time?

The fashion world is very open minded, especially in today’s generation.  Designers have the capability of designer what ever they wish without redundancy.  It is really an art, and imagination should be pushed to the limits of those designers.
