Due to their successes earlier in the year, such as beating Deep Run for the first time in school history, the field hockey team has had a phenomenal season. Coach Sarah Bottorff credits their success to the experience the team has amassed. The team has 15 seniors, most of whom have played since freshman year, or even since they were eighth graders at Oak Knoll.

"Awesome," Coach Bottorff said, after all only one word is needed to describe such a season. The Hawks went undefeated in the district this season with a 12-0 district record. They played as the Capital District Champions during the Central Region Field Hockey Tournament. The Hawks started off with a 2-0 victory over Matoaca High School in the first round of the regional tournament. During the second round the Hawks encountered the Cosby High School Titans, who were the winners of the Dominion District.

The Hawks left the semi-final bout with a 2-1 victory, qualifying the team for states. In the final of the regional tournament, the Lady Hawks suffered a disappointing 1-3 defeat to the Dragons of Maggie Walker Governors School.

The Hawks lost to South County Secondary school in the first round of the Virginia State Tournament, with a final score of 0-2. The Hawks left with their heads up.

"I think we did good, because we made it to states," sophomore Laura Blunt said. "We really surprised our competition. Next year is gonna be good, but more of a rebuilding year."

The field hockey team had one of their best seasons this year. All 15 of the seniors will be able to remember their season by the District Champions banner in the cafeteria, and the memories they share.
