Baruch College Campus High School participated in the American Cancer Society’s 2009 "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk on October 18th in Central Park, New York.$0$0Two teams represented the school. One team, led by junior Liz Beras, walked on the west side of Manhattan. The other team, led by senior Sara Fung, walked on the east side of the borough. Many students signed up to walk for the team and represent the school at the event. $0$0With the sponsorship of Town Optical, an optometry store in Manhattan, the team was able to obtain fifteen t-shirts. These t-shirts will be raffled off to raise money for cancer research. $0$0In 1984, Margery Gould Rath, a cancer patient, created the walk, the first of which took place in the same year. The walkers organized a “move-along-a-thon” in Boston, Massachusetts, to raise money. $0$0Over the years, the walk spread to other communities and has raised at least $340 million for cancer research and resources for cancer patients.
